William Cozart Baker, age 93, of Anderson, SC, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2023, at his home.
Born January 16, 1930, in Augusta, GA, he was the son of the late John William Baker and Ida Corinne Dicks Baker. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Camila Baker; and sister, Corinne Baker Johnson.
Bill was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean Conflict. He was an Erskine College alumnus where he began his teaching career. He then taught biology at Hart County High School for over 20 years and was sponsor of the Key Club. Bill was a father figure to his students. He also enjoyed “moonlighting” on the weekends at AnMed Medical Center. He was a loyal friend and family man that cared for his niece and nephew as his own children and was like a grandfather to his great nephew. In his spare time, he was an avid gardener and loved his time growing and nurturing his plants and flowers. He was a member of Young Memorial ARP Church.
He is survived by his sister, Mary “Mickey” Bond Baker Boutilier; niece, Rachel Da Silva (Joao); nephew, George Robert Johnson, II; and special great nephew, Robert Alcides Da Silva.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 22, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Young Memorial ARP Church with Rev. Robert Bell officiating. Private committal service will be at Due West ARP Church Cemetery, 112 N. Main St., Due West, SC.
