Mr. William E. “Bill” Holland, III age 80 of Hartwell, GA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.

He was born on January 29, 1944, in Royston, GA, to the late William E. Holland, Jr. and Mildred Starr Holland. He grew up in Hartwell, until moving to Huntingdon, PA in the ninth grade where he graduated from Huntingdon Area High School and Juniata College just following, with a BS degree in history and economics. Bill was an accomplished student and athlete playing football in high school and college, and setting records at his high school in track and field. After completing his education, Bill moved back to Hartwell and began his career in purchasing at Owens Corning. He later worked in sales throughout the Southeast and ultimately completed his career as Hart County Clerk of Superior Court, where he served the community he cherished for twenty years. 

A beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, Bill was a gracious host, known for his gentle spirit, his love of family, friends and people in general. He made new friends wherever he went and was passionate about helping others, often doing so quietly, but also volunteering through the American Reads program and playing an instrumental role in the launch of Hart County’s youth development program, HYDRA. 

Bill was an avid outdoorsman who loved nature, hunting, traveling, history, cooking and most of all spending time with his family. He was passionate about his faith in Christ and a lifetime member of Hartwell First Methodist Church. 

Bill will be deeply missed by many, especially his wife, Marijean Chapman Holland, daughters, Amy (Grady) Holland Morris, of Atlanta, GA and Beth (Kevin) Allen of Hartwell, GA, grandchildren, Blaire Hayden Allen, Brynn Holland Allen, Mari Brooks Morris and Caroline James Morris. He was preceded in death by his parents. 

A celebration of life service will be held on SUNDAY, JANUARY 12 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Hartwell First Methodist Church. Dr. R. Allen Stewart and Dr. Hugh Kirby will officiate. A reception will immediately follow in the church fellowship hall. He will be laid to rest privately at the Northview Cemetery Columbarium in Hartwell.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in memory of Bill to Hartwell First Methodist Church or Rainey Hospice House, Anderson, SC. 

Services have been entrusted to Coile and Hall Funeral Directors and Crematory, 333 E. Johnson Street in Hartwell.
