On Friday, November 19, 2021, Dorothy Leona Purvis Cain, passed away at the age of 86. She was
loving, kind and generous and gave her self fully to her family, friends, church and career. Born in
New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, a coal miner's daughter, she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a masters
degree in physics from St. Francis Xavier University in 1955. After graduation, got married, raised a
family and then went to work for Honeywell International at a time when women were just entering the
workforce. She started as a key punch operator and retired after 35 years as a database administrator.
She became president of her condo association, and a deacon of her church. She was passionate about
her Catholic faith.
Pastimes included, being the best granny ever, visiting with friends, sewing, and
painting with watercolors. She passed away after a long illness in the care of her daughter Susan and
son in law, RD Sauer, now also deceased. Dorothy remained sweet and kind throughout her illness and
in the end she pronounced “This is a nice place to be, but I'm going home.” She died two days later
and is now home with the Lord. We miss her dearly.
She is survived by her sister Verna Hill of Westville Nova Scotia and brother Bernie Purvis also of
Westville Nova Scotia, her children, Francis Cain, Wicki Wachi, Florida, Thomas Cain, Port Orchard,
Washington, Katherine McGee, St. Petersburg, Florida, Susan Sauer, Hartwell Georgia, Jennifer
