Modena McCurley Fleming

Mrs. Modena McCurley Fleming, 91, widow of James Roger Fleming, of Hartwell, passed away, July 27, 2023, at her home. She was the daughter of the late Edgar Benton and Nellie Adams McCurley. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Fleming was preceded in death by a son, James Terrell Fleming as well as two sisters, Sarah McCurley and Louise Richardson; and six brothers- Hugh, Swain, Hoyt, William, Junior and Kenneth Linder McCurley.

Survivors include her sons, Jeffrey Fleming of Hartwell and Michael Fleming of Anderson, SC,  five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law Helen Taylor Fleming and one sister, Connie Burns.

Mrs. Fleming held various secretarial and bookkeeper positions with Monroe Auto Equipment, Dunlop Sports and the Hart County Probate office to name a few. She loved God, her family and her church and was always willing to serve in the kitchen at Bethany Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading, playing word games on her iPad and crocheting.

A celebration of life will be held at Bethany Baptist Church on, Sunday, July 30th at 2:00 p.m, with visitation to follow.

A private family burial will take place immediately after the visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Bethany Baptist Church kitchen.

The family is at the home at 333 N. Carolina St., Hartwell, Ga.
